Significance
Santhana Gopala Krishna is an infant form of Lord Vishnu who blesses with progeny. This ritual is performed along with a Vedic ritual called ‘Putra Kameshti Homa’ which is an exclusive remedy (Shanti Karma) to obtain a well-knowledged, healthy and blessed child.
An interesting legend has it that Lord Vishnu himself imparted knowledge of the Santhana Gopala Homam to his devotee Sanath Kumara, who again bestowed the proficiency to the ancient Hindu sage Bodhyana. According to this mythological story, Sanath Kumara and his wife was a childless couple. They offered their penances to Lord Vishnu who pleased with their penances granted the childless couple their boon. He also bestowed them with knowledge of performing the Santhana Gopala Homam.
